In 1911 Bulova begins manufacturing pocket watches, becoming a highly successful American Watch Company.

Bulova Pocket Watches – Keeping Time with Timeless History.

By Mr Goldsmith.
In 1875, when Joseph Bulova opened a shop in New York City, he probably had no idea how popular his work would someday be. He started out creating jewelry, but didn’t actually make any time pieces until 1911, when he started creating what would later become famous Bulova pocket watches.

These Bulova Pocket Watches were so popular that by 1912, Joseph had opened his first manufacturing plant to produce the components for the watches. This plant, along with the assembly line to construct the watches was located in Bienne, Switzerland.[..Read More..]

While pocket watches were replaced with wrist watches around the time of the First World War – due to practicality more than fashion – Bulova Pocket Watches were still coveted by many, and were again highly popular throughout the 1920’s. Owning a pocket watch – especially a Bulova Pocket Watch – was a sign of true elegance, style, and gentility.

Creating the perfect Bulova pocket watch – and wrist watch – was highly important to Joseph, so in 1920, he constructed the Bulova Observatory. A mathematician was then hired to take real time measurements of time, and to convey this information to the watch makers so that each Bulova Pocket Watch could be set with the absolute correct time, with the absolute correct timing as well.

Joseph didn’t stop there, however. By 1923, he had standardized his watch parts so that any Bulova watch component could be used in any Bulova watch. His success was such that by 1924, he was also designing and constructing ladies watches as well. This was the same year that President Coolidge gifted Stanley Harris, a Washington Senator baseball player, with a Bulova Pocket Watch, prompting the design and construction of yet another new watch, aptly named the President.

Joseph was more than an excellent watch maker, however. He was also a savvy business man. With the naming of the President Pocket watch, he realized that commemorating important or historic events made good business sense. So, in 1927, when Charles Lindbergh flew from New York to Paris, in the first solo transatlantic flight ever, Joseph created another member of the Bulova Pocket Watch family, the Lone Eagle Watch, which featured a picture of Lindbergh.

Joseph’s company grew, of course, and went on to manufacture many different types of time pieces. However, today, the Bulova Pocket Watch is still being manufactured, and it is still of the highest possible quality. This is true whether you are seeking a new Bulova Pocket Watch or an antique Bulova pocket watch. A Bulova Pocket Watch simply conveys a message of ‘quality’ to those who see them and use them.

While pocket watches are not as popular as they once were, they are definitely making a comeback. Men everywhere are rediscovering the timeless elegance of pocket watches, and they understand that elegance is only present when true quality exists. This is why more often than not, when they are ready to purchase a watch, they seek out Bulova Pocket Watches above all others.
