Hunter pocket watches are the type of pocket watches with a spring-hinged round metal top or cover, which shuts about the watch-dial and crystal, shielding these from dirt, scratches and different damage or debris. The largest percentage of antique and vintage hunter pocket watches have the actual lid-hinges in the  nine o'clock position and the stem, crown plus bow of the watch at the three o'clock point. Contemporary hunter pocket watches commonly come with these hinges in the lid in the six o'clock position and the stem, crown and bow at the 12 o'clock position, like on open-face pocket watches. With the two types of pocket watches, the sub-seconds dial is usually on the six o'clock position.
