Vintage Watches

In the beginning Junghans focused on clocks, in line with tradition. Wrist watches only made a tentative appearance in around 1930. By 1934, four different wrist watch calibers were on hand. In 1949, Junghans introduced a 14-ligne column-wheel chronograph caliber that had a 30-minute counter. The first Junghans self-winding movement came out in 1951, as did the "Minivox" alarm wrist watches. The first Junghans chronometers was released in 1952 saw an advancement in the company's approach to precision. Those finely made watches all went into the outlets along with an official rating certificate from the watch testing laboratory of Baden-Wilrttemberg. They had an instant success.
By 1954  there have been already 7000 Junghans watches with the celebrated caliber J82, and the desirable title of "chronometer". Junghans found itself transformed over night into by far the biggest producer of officially tested chronometers in Germany. The automatic calibers J83 and J83h (with date), likewise presented with chronometer certificates, represented the apex of Junghans' watchmaking in 1957.
