Movado
Movado was founded by the Ditesheim family in 1881 in Switzerland's La Chaux-de-Fonds. In the first one hundred years of its existence, the Movado company registered close to one hundred patents. His company's name originates synthetic world language Esperanto and means "constantly in motion."
The 1930s where productive years for Movado. The company developed its two button chronograph wristwatches with calendar.
Movado began production of wristwatches with automatic winding in 1945, and in 1946 introduced the Calendomatic. The legendary Museum Watch whose nearly blank dial without numerals or markers was created by the American artist Nathan George Horwitt in 1947. The Museum Watch dot at 12 o'clock symbolizes the midday sun, and the hands suggesting the movement of the earth. The kingmatic watch came in 1956, a series of rotor driven watches.
The self winding wristwatches from the 1940s are the most collectible watches produced by Movado.
