Omega Pocket Watches have been a symbol of true Hollywood glamour for more than half a century, but they became an essential part of a stylish man’s wardrobe long before that.

The history of Omega Pocket Watches began in 1848, when Louis Brandt started designing them in Switzerland, meticulously creating each Omega Pocket Watch by hand. Back then, Omega Pocket Watches were actually called Bienne watches. Mr. Brandt continued to craft each piece by hand until his death.

Louis Brandt’s sons were soon to take over the small company, when he passed away in 1879. Those sons, Louis Paul and Cesar, continued on with their fathers work, ensuring that each Omega Pocket Watch was created with the highest standards in quality craftsmanship. Louis Brandt’s sons actually changed the name of the company to Bienne, and it wasn’t until 1894 that the name was changed to Omega.

Since 1894, the Omega Pocket Watch, and the Omega brand in general, has been one of the most important export items for Switzerland. Unfortunately, Louis Brandt’s sons were not able to see first hand just how famous their father’s small watch company became, as they both died in 1903. At that time, the company was taken over by four people, headed up by Paul Brandt, who was only 23 years old at the time.

The makers and designers of Omega Pocket Watches have a penchant for keeping up with the times in terms of function, technology, style, and design. As far back as World War II, when Omega designed watches specifically suited to pilots and soldiers, the company has always strived to not only fill fashion needs, but also to fill more basic needs as well, which can be said for few luxury watch makers.

Omega Pocket Watches have also kept up with economical changes throughout the years. For instance, during the recession of the 1980s, Omega, a brand known for only delivering expensive, luxurious watch products, contracted with other watch makers to create watches that were affordable for everyone, while still creating watches that were suited to the more upscale crowd as well.

Today, the company that produces Omega Pocket Watches and other Omega time pieces is no longer SSIH. Today, the company is SMH, which took over ASUAG-SSIH, and renamed the company to SMH.

In spite of the company changes and name changes, the watches that are produced are still called Omega Pocket Watches, and today, these watches are proudly worn by some of the best known people in Hollywood, as well as other newsworthy individuals around the world, signifying that Omega is still the brand to have if glamour matters. However, it is also the brand to have if accuracy matters - This why Omega stop watches have been used in the Olympics since 1932.
