Although only about six months have passed since Elgin offered the Railroad Watch. The New "B.W. Raymond," has gained an acceptance unusual in a short time. Part of this is unquestionably due to the fact that this new watch comes as the successor to the earlier Elgin "Raymond." which has so long enjoyed the high regard of the railroad man. But it si not to be overlooked that this new Elgin Railroad Watch, "B. W. Raymond," is a remarkable timepiece in its own right.

Some features to look out for on a pocket watch are as follows: enamel decoration on the case, purity of the gold and the maker's name. Pocket watches cases were often made in 14 carat gold, but 18 carat was also used and this was usually reserved for a better quality movement. Any late nineteenth-century pocket watch has a small chance of being a rarity, the seventeenth century, was a period when although watchmakers cooperated with jewelers, enamelers and engravers, there is always a feeling of uniqueness about every piece.
