Vintage watches have been passed down from generations to generations and make excellent family heirlooms. These refer to mechanical watches that were manufactured prior to the quartz revolution in the 1970’s.

The quartz revolution brought forth a great tragedy to vintage mechanical watch makers. Due to the popularity and mass production of quartz watches, many watch makers were forced to close down their watch making businesses.  However, there are still a handful of vintage watch makers in the world today. If you are lucky, you may find a store or two that sell vintage watches in your area. However, you should go by reputation and recommendation of trusted friends and family when dealing with stores. The latter is common to both physical and online stores as the vintage watch industry is increasingly becoming populated with replica watches that often compete head to head with the original ones. If you are not careful in analyzing the differences, you will most probably walk away with a piece of non authentic Vintage. And that would be such a waste for all the money you would spend!

Vintage watches need to be treated with care. These are not to be used when doing household chores or filling the gas of your car. These watches also have to be kept away from water. It is important that vintage watches are cleaned every now and then. Periodic servicing - checking up on their 20,000 mile and changing of oil - also needs to be done for vintage watches.
